Here are some notes to go along with the sermon published online for this Lord’s day for home worship.

You can find hymns to sing here.

Here is a a video version of the sermon and an audio one.

Finally, here is a model prayer for this day. It is adapted from the prayer “Belonging to Jesus” from the book “Valley of Vision.”

O Heavenly Father,

Teach us to see that if Christ has pacified you and satisfied divine justice, He can also deliver us from our sins. Teach us to see that Christ does not desire us, now justified, to live in self-confidence in our own strength, but rather that He gives us the law of the Spirit of life to enable us to obey You. Teach us to see that the Spirit and His power are ours by resting on Christ’s death. Teach us to see that the Spirit of life within answers to the law without.

Teach us to see that if we do not sin we should thank You for it, that if we do sin we should be humbled daily by it, and that we should mourn for sin more than other men do. For when we see we shall die because of sin, it makes us mourn. When we see how sin strikes at You, it makes us mourn. When we see how sin caused Christ’s death, it makes us mourn. Teach us to see that sanctification is the evidence of reconciliation which proves that our faith has truly apprehended Christ.

You have taught us that faith is nothing else but simply receiving Your kindness. You have taught us that faith is an adherence to Christ, a resting on Him, a loving clinging to Him like a branch to the tree so as to seek life and health from Him.

We thank you for showing us the vast difference between knowing things by reason and knowing things by the spirit of faith. By reason we see a thing is so, By faith we know it as it is. We have seen You by reason and are not amazed. We have seen You by Your Son and are ravished to behold You.

We bless you that we are yours in our Savior Jesus.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
